The internet has created a vehicle for almost anyone to create income from their passion.

I have heard Gary Vaynerchuck from Wine Library TV say a number of times that if you are passionate about the smurfs there is no reason you couldn’t make $60k a year from blogging, creating videos and creating content about the smurfs.

Its true - whatever your passion is, as long as there are other people out there in the world who are also passionate about your passion, then there is an opportunity to turn your passion into profits!

My pasison is just that - teaching people how to turn the thing that that love into a business.  Show people how to turn their hobby into an income generating activity.

Here are just some of the best ways to turn your passion into profits:

1. Write A Regular Blog About Your Passion

A blog (short for web log) is an easy, no cost way of giving your passion a voice on the world wide web.  By writing short and sharp daily musings about your chosen passion, whether it be The Smurfs, Australian Rules Football, Wine, Underwater Basket Weaving, whatever, you can build a following of passionate like minded people, build regular traffic to your site, and profit from onsite advertising, marketing affiliate related products, or even creating your own products related to your passion.

Writing a blog is a great way to begin turning your passion into profits, even if it isn’t going to be your end result.  A blog is also a great way to test a market, by creating a web presence in your niche, building a profile as a recognised expert, and measuring the opportunity to create income from that market.

2. Record a Video Blog About Your Passion

A video blog is much like a regular blog, just that the bulk of your content is presented through video, rather than text.  Gary V’s Wine Library TV Video blog is a great example of how someone with a passion has been able to make money online.  Dont be fooled, Gary doesn’t use a flash expensive video camera or production equipment, and if you look at the very first episode of Wine Library TV (Episode 1) you’ll see he didn’t have his flashy intro graphics, music and he didn’t really have the same excitement that he has now.

The video content gives a greater perceived value of the content you provide, and makes it much more interesting, user friendly, and palletable for the viewer.

A video blog also takes personal branding to a whole new level and allows you to build your personal brand with much more punch.  Your readers/viewers have the opportunity to see you for real, and get to know you better as a personality and perceived expert in your field.

Like a regular blog you can set up a video blog at a low cost, and they’re not expensive to maintain or run.

The main costs involved in building and maintaining a successful video blog would be:

  • Wordpress Video Blog Template (might be lucky to find a free one)
  • Blog Hosting
  • Video Flip Cam/Handy Cam
  • Video Editing Software (could find a free software)

To build a successful video blog and personal brand in your niche branding is important, so I would suggest you pay a blog designer to design your video blog template to give you a professional look and feel - you can usually find a good wordpress designer to work for around $400 - $500 per site template.

A video blog opens up the opportunity for product placement advertising, video sponsors, as well as your other blogging income opportunities.

3. Build a Membership Site - Creating Ongoing Monthly Income

From the regular following you create through your blog you could then funnel some of them into a monthly membership program based on your niche and passion.  Whether its a teaching site, teaching your members how to do what you do, a mentoring or coaching site, or even a cd of the month, or video of the month type site - where your members pay a monthly membership fee - from $9 to $197 per month for exclusive membership content.

Let’s take the fitness niche as an example:

You might be a fitness instructor with a passion for teaching people how to keep fit, lose weight and have more energy.

So you start by building a video blog, where you publish regular daily videos of an exercise which is easy to do at home.

By submitting regular content to your video blog you build up a great following of 5000 subscribers, who receive your blog posts each week, but you’re just making a few dollars here and there by displaying ads on your blog site and every now and then promoting affiliate products.

SO you create a members only section to your video blog with a 6 month fitness program with exlusive exercise routine videos, weekly group coaching calls, dietary advice forum and your brand new ebook “How To Drop 10 Pounds in 10 Weeks” - all this for just $67 per month.

By creating a membership site with valueable and targetted content, you have created an asset which will generate you more and more income as you attract more and more new members.

If you were able to convert 10% of your regular video blog subscribers to join your membership site you have created an extra $33,500 per month!
