If Opportunity Doesn’t Knock - Chase It and Grab It By The Throat!

Some of you would be well aware of the latest frenzy created by facebook as they created the opportunity for facebook users to create a customised vanity URL - eg http://www.facebook.com/makemoneyonline - which will direct the viewer directly to the facebook users profile.

If you haven’t yet specified your own facebook custom URL - go to http://www.facebook.com/username

This was announced on the 9th of June in the USA and at 8pm Friday 12th June the flood gates were opened and in the first hour over 500,000 unique URLs were created.

So what does this have to do with my blog post title? “If Opportunity Doesn’t Knock - Chase It and Grab It By The Throat!”

Well I came home today after cleaning and handing in the keys to my previous rental property and sat down to my tweetdeck to see how things were going in the rest of the world and I was reminded that facebook were opening the doors to the custom URLs today at 1pm my time, which was in about 10 minutes.

So I had a quick think and wondered what would be the most valuable keyword phrase that I could possibly register as my custom URL, both for my own online business activities and in the future as an asset to my business. I had the opportunity to get a bit creative and think out of the box with my Facebook Custom URL because I actually have 2 facebook accounts, one is my personal account and one is more of a business profile account.

After thinking around this for a minute or so, and watching the count down clock dropping below 10 minutes, I opened up a notebook file and started typing out a few potential high value keywords following the guidelines of the facebook custom URLs (surname.middlename.firstname OR surname.firstname):

make.money.online
internet.marketing.coach
internet.marketing

So firstly I started thinking outside the box and wasn’t happy just to stick to a surname.middlename.firstname and knowing full well that there would be thousands of people around the world also going for these Custom Facebook URLs, I figured, you’ve got to be in the game if you’re going to have any chance to win it.

After deciding which of these keyword phrases would be most valuable to me, I picked make.money.online, dragged my mouse over it to select the text, and hit Control-C to copy the text to the clipboard ready to paste it straight in to the application form saving me time not having to type it in.

By this stage the countdown clock was down to about 3 minutes and now it was just a waiting game.

Track forward 2 minutes and 50 seconds and I started to think - if I was a developer who had programmed this countdown clock, just to be tricky I’d probably allow the service to open a little bit early if the user is smart enough to hit the refresh button. So I did… I hit the refresh button with about 8 seconds to go and whamo! I was in, pasted in my phrase, hit the submit button and I am now the proud owner of http://www.facebook.com/makemoneyonline (feel free to add me as your friend).

SO WHAT? I hear you say?

Well the jury is still out as to how much traffic this will generate to my facebook profile and how much it is really worth, but let me say I had one offer in the first 10 minutes to buy the facebook account!

How Does This Information Relate To You And Your Journey Making Money Online?

1. Always be prepared to think outside the box and challenge the status quo

Its a well know quote, “If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got.”

So in the converse - If you want to achieve different results, or greater success, take different actions!

2. Think Big!

The honest truth is that there would have been thousands of people aiming for “Make Money Online” as their custom Facebook URL - and I wasn’t ignorant of this, but I also wasn’t going to let this deter me from chasing after what I wanted.

Dont ever be discouraged from dreaming big dreams and believing that you can achieve those dreams. Along the way you will always have people who will try to cut you down and discourage you from chasing after your dreams - but dont let this slow you down for one minute.

3. Dont Wait For Opportunities To Come

I believe that too many people are waiting for all their ducks to line up and for opportunity to knock before they’re going to open the door and take action. If I had have waited until the countdown clock had timed out and just done what everyone else did, I would have got what they got - Nothing!

Take massive action! Step out of the boat! Dont wait for opportunities to come to you - chase them and grab them by the throat!
