Hey welcome back! So glad you came back... let's make money!
This past weekend for me has been a rollercoaster of emotions…
As my regular readers will know I spent the weekend and 2 days prior in Adelaide, Australia for one of my best friends wedding, which I had the privilige to be a part of as a groomsman. It was such a special time and very exciting to see him marrying the girl of his dreams who he had been with for just on seven years.
The day before the wedding I also discovered that the builder, which we had been in negotiations with, and even paid a deposit to, to build our house had pulled the plug on expanding into our region so we were back to the drawing board.
In amongst these things my fiance and I are also up to our knecks organising our engagement party, wedding and reception, so believe me there’s a lot going on in our lives at the moment, so every now and then I have to catch myself when it comes to the thoughts I meditate on.
So for this weeks ‘Mindset Monday’ I want to bring to your attention the importance of your thoughts.
This is not just ‘positive thinking’ or a new age approach to ‘think happy thoughts’ and everything will turn out right. The things you dwell on, the things you give your attention to, will manifest in your life and its not by accident nor is it through some mystical power, let me explain…
Thoughts Become Things - Cognitive Behavioural Theory or ‘CBT’?
The premise behind CBT is this:
- What You Think Determines How you Feel…
- How You Feel Determines How You Act…
- Your Actions Become Habits…
Your thoughts directly impact your emotions - did you know that we have the power to change and choose our emotions?
If you’re sad you can think about something which makes you happy and you can change the emotions you feel… why do you think music and movies have such an ability to stir emotion in us?
From here, your feelings or your emotions will cause you to act in a certain manner.
When you’re confident and feeling great about yourself you walk taller, you are confident to speak to people, and you approach life with enthusiasm. But if you’re feeling down in the dumps, you’re lacking confidence, maybe you’ve just been fired from your job, so you’re probably walking with your shoulder slouched, head hanging down and lack energy to do anything.
These actions, which are directly linked to our emotions, then if continued over a period of time have the ability to become habits in our lives, and as a habit forms, our habits create patterns of behavior and patterns of success or failure.
Thoughts Do Become Things!
So what does that mean for you?
Well let me ask you this question - what things do you want in your life?
Because when you know what things you want in your life, you can then determine what thoughts you need to think, to create the right emotions and feelings, which will create the appropriate actions and habits for you to achieve and receive the things you want!!
The mind has the power to lead us into emotional states, which directly impact on our physical body and our ability to act…
The bible says “be transformed by the renewing of your mind”.
You can not only choose who you become, but transform your world by ‘renewing your mind’
Think About What You’re Thinking About
One of the greatest dangers in our world today is simply being unaware… What a shame it would be if we got to the end of our lives only to find out that we lived at only 5% of our potential capacity.
Our mind has such an amazing capacity for creativity and exploration into the imaginary, which can become reality, but left unexplorered it remains untapped and unchartered.
So my homework for you today is this…
Start to develop a habit of being deliberate about your thoughts.
If you find yourself thinking negatively about your life, or particular situations you’re in - stop, and look for a positive angle… look for positive in everything that you’re doing.
If you begin to doubt, or fear, or worry - begin to laugh in the face of fear (actually laugh out loud).
Answer it back and tell your fears that they have no power over you and that they wont hold you back from achieving all that you were created to achieve (actually speak out loud).
You see fear is simply the opposite to faith, and faith is ‘the substance of things we hope for, and the evidence of things you dont see’. Both fear and faith are a substance, manifested in your actions. Fear will cause you to shrink back, but faith will cause you to step forward into your destiny.
Create A Toolkit Of Empowering Thoughts
Our thoughts are created by the data we allow in through our eyes and ears… what you watch and what/who you listen to.
So its up to you to be the master of your thought life, as well as equipping yourself with the tools to foster empowering thoughts and beliefs.
One great way to facilitate this is by reading empowering quotes.
Here is a list of 10 Great and Empowering Quotes:
- “Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed on an equal or greater benefit.” - Napoleon Hill
- “Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.” - Unknown
- “What seems nasty, painful, evil can become a source of beauty, joy, and strength, if faced with an open mind.” - Henry Miller
- “Brick walls are there for a reason - they let us prove how badly we want things and to keep out others who do not want it enough” - Randy Pausch
- “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” - Marianne Williamson - “Aim high! The future you see, is the person you will be.” - Jim Cathcart
- “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” - Barack Obama
- “Be content with what you have, rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.” - Lao Tzu
- “There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will.” - Epitectus
- “Remember that life develops what it demands - the toughest path creates the strongest warrior. Pray not for a lighter load, but for stronger shoulders.” - Dan Millman
Remember you have control over your thoughts, dont ever play the blame game or allow yourself to become a victim…
If you have the power to change a situation in your life… dont complain about it and dont worry about it… just change it.
If you dont have the power to change the situation… dont complain about it and dont worry about it, because there’s nothing you can do about it!
Create a habit of thinking empowering thoughts and you will begin to find an inner strength that you never realised you had, empowering you to do things you never thought you could do!
Go on.. I dare you! Change Your World!

Another great post Nathan.
It’s so true that if we think about certain things enough, they become our reality. Everything you see around you began as a thought in someone’s mind.
Keep them coming Nathan =)
“What you Think about You Bring about”
Not positive, but I think that one is from the movie “The Secret”
And since you mentioned scripture -there’s Proverbs chapter 23 verse 7 - “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
We’ve all grown up hearing over and over - “you are what you eat” Don’t you wonder why we haven’t all grown up hearing over and over again - “you are what you think” ?? I think that’s why Rhonda Byrne called it “The Secret”.
oooooops ! Sorry Nathan (and regular readers) I’m a little new here and did NOT read this “Mindset Mondays” in proper order. I see that you already have a firm handle on Proverbs 23
I’ll try to get a little more “caught up” before I comment much more. But then - it IS Proverbs - it’s been “repeated” quite frequently for many many years now. Hope I didn’t do any real harm.
