So “What Would Seth Godin Do?

What would Seth Godin do is a fantastic new WordPress plugin which I discovered just this week, and has already drastically improved the opt-in to my email RSS blog feed already.

It is controlling plugin behind the little box you see just under the title of this blog post.

The concept behind it comes from Seth Godin’s belief in the fact that not all prospects are equal, and not everyone visiting your website should be treated in the same way.

Let me explain…

This fantastic WordPress plugin (which was developed by Richard K Miller) uses cookies to determine whether the visitor to your blog has been to your blog before.

If they are a brand new visitor then it takes the opportunity, for a specified number of visits (eg their first 10 visits) to encourage them to sign up for your RSS Blog Feed.

Not only is this great for building your RSS Subscriber base but it adds a whole other level of personalisation for your readers, welcoming to your blog.

If they have been to your blog more than the specified number of visits (eg 10 visits) then the box will display a welcome back message, which can be completely customised.

This simple Word Press plugin, allows you to differentiate between returning visitors and brand new readers, and in Seth’s words:

One opportunity that’s underused is the idea of using cookies to treat returning visitors differently than newbies. It’s more work at first, but it can offer two experiences to two different sorts of people. (Source: In the Middle, Starting)

The art of blogging is just as much about what you write as it is about how you write it, how you present what you write, and the experience you provide for your readers, and there’s nothing worse than being bombarded with irrelevant messages.

If you have any other great word press plugin recommendations please let me know, leave a message in the comments with your recommendations.
